Years ago I adopted/rescued a great big brown lab mix named Bella. She was the most beautiful spirit, so filled with love and silliness. I called her my Big Brown Moose. A couple years after her passing, when I started my etsy shop, for some reason the name Brown Moose Paws came to mind and I just stuck with it. My brown moose lives on in my heart and in my work.
So how did I start building birdhouses? I'm not sure how it happened it just sort of evolved. I have a love of photography, animal rescue, nature, birds ...
I began staging my yard, with feeders and birdhouses, so that I could take some nice bird photography. From there I started making a birdhouse or two from items found in the barn or wherever. I started posting some of the pics online for my friends and people started saying I should open a shop... and so I did and Brown Moose Paws was born.
I love building and creating things. My favorite thing to work with is Red Cedar. The good stuff - not the stuff in the home improvement stores, but you know that great smelling cedar you get fresh from the cedar mill. I use it as much as I can but I do also work with reclaimed wood from Barn tear downs, construction leftovers, habitat for humanity re-store and many other places. I prefer making items with more of a rustic earthy feel.... There is plenty of the cookie cutter perfect items to buy in the stores. I prefer to make things that feel a little more earthy... if that makes any sense.
